Telephone Counselling Support
The Grove is an industry leader in telephone counselling in Melbourne for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is an effective way for clients to confront any issues and work through them with a qualified professional from the comfort of their own home.
Our telephone counselling support is a practical way to get advice and support from a qualified expert if you don’t have the time, ability or confidence to make it into the office for a face-to-face session. Now more than ever, professionals all over the world are having to adapt to a new social-distancing normal and we are proud to have had our telephone counselling services in place and perfected for many years now.
We offer an effective and convenient route for you to get the help and support you need when you need it most.
What is Telephone Counselling
Telephone counselling works in a similar way to our in-person therapy sessions. You will be assigned a specialist that is experienced in the area that applies to your needs, who will do an initial 90-minute session over our secure video platform or via phone. In the initial session, we will go over your most pressing concerns and devise a plan going forward to help you deal with the things that are grappling with in subsequent 60-minute sessions over the platform of your choice.
We offer a multi-channel approach to our off-site therapy sessions, you can also expect to receive support via texts, phone calls and on online platforms. We will figure out what the best solution is for you, what you want to talk about and how to fit it into your lifestyle in the best way possible.
Is Telephone Counselling Effective?
There’s a misconception that getting telephone counselling support isn’t as effective as in-person therapy. In fact, we find that the support structure that works best is entirely dependent on individual needs and that our telephone sessions have an excellent outcome for those that go this route
There are a number of benefits associated with counselling over the phone:
It’s convenient
We know that the modern lifestyle is a busy one and many people may not have the time or the means to make it to our physical location. Telephone counselling offers people the option to get their therapy sessions from home, which can conserve time and money that would have been spent getting to and from the sessions.
It’s comfortable
Unfortunately, there is still stigma in some societies about talking to a therapist and as such, many people want to keep their sessions private and out of the public eye. This option allows people to get the support that they need from wherever they would like and gives them a better chance of keeping their sessions to themselves if that is what they desire,
Could be easier for some
Not all people are comfortable with going in to see a therapist and many suffer from anxiety that can make talking to a therapist in person intimidating. Clients may find that they have improved comfort and more willingness to speak over the phone, which can make the sessions more effective.

What is Telephone Counselling?
Telephone Counselling at The Grove is provided via a secure online video platform called Zoom. Essentially Online Counselling is talk therapy using an online medium. It is very safe, secure and convenient.
Initially we recommend meeting over the phone or via online video consult. This is a time that we learn about your most significant struggles and together determine whether Online Counselling is appropriate for you. If together we decide to proceed, you and your therapist schedule time to meet via the online video platform.
Just as if you were meeting face-to-face, your first session will be an intake session and will run for 90 minutes, and your subsequent appointments will be standard sessions and will run for 60 minutes.
At The Grove, we take your wellbeing very seriously. As we would in a face-to-face counselling, we will ask that you provide details of:
your GP or any medical practitioners / specialists that you are consulting
a person you could reach out to, if you needed to be with someone
Generally we do not recommend Online Counselling for those that are:
quite psychologically unwell or at risk to themselves & others
Does Telephone Counselling really work?
Whilst Telephone Counselling does not afford us the same opportunity to perhaps engage in Art Therapy, it is an incredibly effective medium for talk therapy. For those clients that have experienced trauma in their lives, Online Counselling, can help them feel very safe and empowered in the work, as they have complete control over their environment. In the case of Wholebody Focusing Oriented Therapy, clients and therapists alike, comment on how powerfully they experience the therapy, when the the attention is so actively brought to one another through the screen medium. Couples often are really grateful for the experience to work online.
What do I need to do Telephone Counselling?
Telephone Counselling is very personal work. Before each session we recommend that you take time to prepare yourself and your space accordingly. Shut the doors, turn off the phone, get yourself a glass of water, and maybe even light a candle, that you then blow out once the session is complete. To make the most of the session, be ready to commence 5 minutes before your appointed time.
Whilst the online medium is very convenient and easy to access, it is important that you ensure you are in a space that is:
private
distraction or disturbance free
comfortable - don’t forget the water & tissues
You will need:
a computer with a camera
earbuds or headset with a microphone (not essential, but recommended)
strong internet access
At the time of your session:
your therapist will email you a link to a Zoom meeting
click on the link & the session will commence
if it is your first time using Zoom, you will be automatically invited to download Zoom just before the session starts
How do I pay?
At the end of each session we ask that you provide your credit card details and payment is made using our secure payment terminal. Just as for face-to-face clients, a receipt and follow up session details are then emailed to you.
I live in a different time zone, what do I do?
All Online Counselling sessions are conducted from our practice in Melbourne Australia (Australian Eastern Standard Time). If you are located in a different time zone, we ask that you consult http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html to determine your relevant time zone. Please note all appointment and reminder information will refer to the Melbourne, Australian time time and date of your appointment.
